Our
town and city centres are complex places with
increasing demands for flexibility placed upon them.
The urban economy is increasingly diverse and is
becoming centred on leisure and increased use after
dark.
We actively encourage people to come into town after dark and want them to enjoy a safe and comfortable visit that is both economically and socially rewarding. Good urban lighting is an increasingly important element of the mix that makes town and city centres popular and successful.
At the same time there are increasing concerns over energy use. A strategic approach to urban lighting helps to ensure that our decisions over what to light and what not to light are considered and sustainable.
