townpiersquareTown Pier Square is an interactive floorscape providing interest and animation to the space between three leisure uses. The scheme is low key and unobtrusive by day as it is in the heart of Gravesend's Heritage Quarter and yet provides eye-catching and enduring interest after dark.

New lighting controls were designed and programmed for the project linked to a range of motion sensors. As people move through the space they activate different shows, for instance if the sensors on the east side of the square alone are activated waves of colour sweep across to the west side. There are 256 distinct shows depending on the sensors that are activated.

The system can be reprogrammed remotely and is capable of being activated by text messages from the public. Town Pier Square is at the heart of the Council’s regeneration strategy for the town, and now the town’s prime open space offers lasting visual appeal and interest after dark.
