Plymouth
City Council commenced the implementation of a city
centre masterplan by redesigning the busiest and most
central urban space in the city centre. Armada way is
a natural gathering point at the heart of the city and
this project capitalises on this activity by creating
a multi functional space.
Multi
use is a key element of the low key landscape approach.
After dark the space is transformed by an array of
programmed motion sensitive lighting and an even yet
unobtrusive scheme to provide safe and comfortable lighting
across the entire space. The design specification was to
provide a low maintenance robust installation that would
stand the test of time and the loading that street cleaning
plant, temporary staging, ice rinks and service trucks
would provide.
