Our
scheme for St Leonard's Church used a new approach to
church lighting. The building is lit almost exclusively
with LED colour change lighting inside and out. As the
church is used by many different community groups we wanted
to be able to transform the church lighting to reflect the
variety of events and activities in this important social
centre. At the touch of a button or at preset times the
colours of the facades and interior can be changed to
reflect the activities being held in the church.
The lighting is easy to maintain and has very low running
costs making it sustainable lighting. The church lighting
scheme won Lighting Project of the Year at the Chartered
Institute of Building Services Engineers awards in 2001 and
fetures in a CIBSE guide to best practice for lighting the
historic environment.
