We
were invited to develop a lighting scheme as a key
element of a restoration scheme for the Western
Bandstand in Brighton following a series of
competitive interviews with the architects and
Brighton and Hove City Council. We were chosen for our
experience with historic buildings and our commitment
to low energy, low maintenance lighting. Our
experience of design in coastal situations was also a
factor.
We
have designed a sensitive, intimate ligting scheme within a
fixed budget, without detriment to the structure and
responding to the building and its setting. The lower area
of the refurbished bandstand is used as a cafe whilst the
bandstand itself has a new programme of performances
scheduled. The new lighting scheme complements both uses.
