This small extension to a house in Islington provided a new dining room, kitchen, library and garden room using clean and elegant materials.

Smooth walls, seamless storage and a polished white concrete floor and worktop created a light reflective surface.

Our challenge here was to create atmosphere and mood after dark in the dining area and garden with functional lighting for the kitchen and library area.

We chose fittings that were fully recessed to accentuate the clean lines and minimal appearance of the new rooms.

Part of the challenge of lighting a small light coloured space is to ensure that contrast can be created developing visual interest without excessive shading, but careful choice and mixtures of light sources and colour temperatures and a quality dimming system ensured success.
